Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) is preparing for a surge in passenger traffic during the upcoming autumn holidays, with more than 1.3 million travelers expected between Friday, October 18, and Sunday, November 3, 2024.

This marks an increase of approximately 100,000 passengers compared to last year’s autumn holiday period.

Flights from BER will serve 133 destinations across 49 countries, with Mediterranean holiday hotspots like Spain, Turkey, Italy, France, and Greece in high demand.

The most popular destination is Antalya, Turkey, with 493 scheduled flights. Mallorca, Spain, is also a favorite, with 329 take-offs and landings planned.

Ryanair leads in the number of flights, offering around 1,500 take-offs and landings, followed by easyJet with approximately 1,400, and Eurowings with 850 flights.

BER is expected to handle 250,000 passengers during the first holiday weekend alone, with Friday, October 18, projected to be the busiest day with 96,000 passengers.

To assist travelers, the BERTeam, composed of staff from various airport departments, will be on-site in three shifts, helping passengers navigate the terminals and use self-service check-in kiosks.

Travelers are advised to be aware of construction work affecting the S-Bahn lines S9 and S45, as well as potential disruptions to regional rail services due to the planned visit of U.S. President Joe Biden to Berlin. Up-to-date travel information can be found on the VBB website.

To streamline the passenger experience, BER encourages travelers to utilize the airport’s digital services, including free security checkpoint reservations via BER Runway and contactless facial recognition services through BER Biometrics.

Fast Bag Drop is also available for hassle-free baggage check-in at over 120 machines in both terminals.

Security Preparation: Only liquids in containers up to 100ml are allowed in hand luggage.

BER Runway: Free time slots for security access can be reserved up to seven days before departure for faster processing.

BER Biometrics: Travelers can enjoy contactless services via facial recognition, including baggage drop and lounge access, by downloading the SmartDepart app.

EasyPASS: Passengers with biometric passports or German ID cards can use automated passport control for faster border clearance.

Lounges: The BER Business Lounges offer quiet spaces for relaxation or work, with extensive dining options and conference facilities.

Shops and Catering: Travelers can access numerous shops and restaurants, including 24/7 options like REWE and Kamps in Terminal 1.
